Wedding guests by creative freedom photo

I always tell me couples more guests=more stress, you dont need to invite 200 people to your wedding. Its  quality not quantity!grandma-for-ws

When to do the group shots and who should be in them? What I usually do is get the group shot session done after the ceremony.Make sure that you tell all beforehand who needs to stay put.You do not want someone who disappeared to the bathroom holding up the session.

What I tell my couples dont make a list of every combination you can think of.make it simple.Example bride and groom with brides immediate family, then add on the extended family, then the same with the groom.Entire bridal party, bride with gals and groom with his guys.

Discuss with your photographer if you want them to be fun formal or both. Appoint an assertive and organized friend or family member to be in charge of the list and assisting your photographer. If you plan all of this in advance and all goes smoothly it should take no longer than twenty minuets.

Before the ceremony is a good time to get all the guys together and all the girls for some bridal party shots.I usually look for an interesting background. They dont all have to be posed!

Thing of creative ways to entertain your guests, receptions tend to be redundant.Photo booths are fun,or you could hire a caricature artist, table magician, cigar roller etc make it your own, make it unique, get creative!

Children are adorable at weddings and make for some great photographs.I do not recommend a candy bar, children have enough energy without all of the sugar! How bout keeping them occupied with table games ,fun things for them to do.

Notice  beforehand if there is an Ariel view at the venue,if so arrange to have the entire group (everyone at your wedding)  to be photographed. That is a great vantage point for a big crowd.

Or you could include all of your guests in a parting shot

If you are having an outdoor wedding, hope for the best but always prepare for the worst.make sure that you have a back up plan!! If you have your heart set on getting married outside,go with the flow, have lots of umbrellas handy, incorporate your wedding colors. Do keep in mind that overcast is  best for portraits

As far as ceremony sites I have seen it all in my twenty four years of photographing weddings nationwide. From elaborate castles in Germany,to beach blankets in Key West .Make it your own. There are no rules!

I am often asked about timelines. The best light for photography is when the sun is low in the sky. I would say ,if you are having an outdoor wedding, look up the time of sunset for that day and schedule your ceremony two hours before time of sunset.Allowing plenty of time afterward for your group shots and saving the very best light about a half hour before the sunset for your “intimate session” the photographs of just the two of you alone .Dont rush your photographer through this, give them at the very least a half an hour.Remember these are the photos you will probably be hanging on your walls.

Some couples now a days have a “first look” before the ceremony. This helps take the edge off, (good for nervous couples). Also a wonderful time for your photographer .Also a great Idea is the “first look” for Fathers and daughters

I always ask my couple,”what is the most important photo to you” 99% of my brides and many of my grooms will say (or better say) the first time I see my bride! This is such an important shot,I never miss it!!

During the ceremony look at each other! believe it or not I have seen couples who look at the notary the entire time.

I absoulutely love shooting candid during the ceremony, there are so many emotions.Another favorite are capturing kids at this time.

The most important kiss of your lifetime is your first kiss as husband and wife. I always have a second shooter and we are both getting this most important moment from two different views. I would highly recommend that your photographer have a 2nd shooter/assistant,especially for the larger weddings

GETTING READY! wedding advice

This blog will be in four parts,”Getting ready” Ceremony”., “The intimate session” and the reception.

Today I will be covering “getting ready”

I always get to the location early. The first thing that I photograph is the atmosphere of the venue, this is important to my couples, they have chosen this venue for a reason. After twenty five years of photographing weddings I have had the privilege of traveling to castles in Germany, the super dome in New Orleans, the Biltmore in North carolina,Hemingway house in Key West just to name a few.

For my couples, try to have the ladies and the guys get ready at the same location, there are two sides to the story.I like to go back and forth.

During this time I like to photograph the details,  have a go to person for your photographer. I always ask to have the details ready for me when I come in.The rings, the flowers,an invitation or newspaper, something with the date on it,shoes dress, vows etc…

Advice to the ladies, choose a room with the most natural light, remember that light is very important for the sake of the photos, you do not want to get ready in a room with florescent lite with no windows.Try to keep the room free of clutter.

Leave plenty of time for some bride and groom portraits when you are all ready. For the brides do not be last to have your hair and makeup done.

Try to get plenty of rest the night before and if you get nervous remember it is about the marriage. Dont sweat the small stuff, just go with the flow.

ALL BRIDES ARE BEAUTIFUL!! by http://www.creativefreedomphoto.com/

(  A lesson for future brides and for wedding photographers )

I believe that being a woman has an advantage when it comes to wedding photography. Most brides do feel much more comfortable around women, especially during the “getting ready”  time. I also believe everyone is their most beautiful when they are happy!!

Dont skip the “getting ready” session with your photographer. A great wedding photographer is a great storyteller. To me the beginning of the story is so important,. all of the chaos the emotions and the alone time that I spend with the bride getting the bridal portraits.
Also try to have the guys near by,you do not want to forget the other part of the story. Having several locations is not a good Idea your photographer will have less time with you, with the guys, and you will have less photos and might even miss out on allot of great moments. The best case scenario   is when you can have everything at one location for instance, rent a beautiful house   and have all vendors come to you ,it really does cut down on the stress level. .

I feel one of the most important part of being a great wedding photographer is getting to know your couples, if you can meet with them or have an engagement session do it! If not, often times my couples are from out of state or country, get to know each other through e mails and phone conversations. By the time the wedding day comes, my brides are so happy to see me,they are 100% comfortable and it shows through the lens! Being comfortable   with your wedding photographer also cuts down on the stress.

For brides and grooms, dont try to pose, let your emotions flow ,try to forget about the camera and just enjoy every moment. The photo below,”the grooms reaction” is usually the most important moment for both the bride and the groom.

VALIUM FOR BRIDES/ Advise from a wedding photographer to help calm your nerves

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

http://www.creativefreedomphoto.com/

(Fine arts photojournalist,available worldwide)

Take a deep breath, let it out slowly, clear your mind (take up mindful meditation) I am serious, it really does help me to lower my blood pressure!
DO:Consider having  a “first look” It does help alleviate    some of the before ceremony jitters
a first look
DO: Have a professional hair and makeup artist come to you,I highly recommend a trial run, perhaps the day your are having your engagement photos taken, this will certainly help you to calm down a bit trusting that your pro hair and makeup artist will make you look amazing. (even if you have a bad hair day or get a big wedding zit)
AFWS2
DO go with the airbrush and the false lashes, done right it looks amazing!
DO: Hold your flowers low it elongates your waist
DO: Put your weight on your back leg while standing dont stand straight in front of the camera
DO; Try to forget about the camera and enjoy your day,it will go by like a flash.Trust your photographer, feel comfortable with him or her, talk or meet with them before the BIG day. I encourage my brides to call and e mail as much as they want.
afb1
DO: If you have by-by  arms or back fat, have a tailor sew some 3/4 inch  sleeves or get a shawl. Not every bride is built to wear a sleeveless dress, I cant for the life of me understand why most wedding gowns are sleeveless.
DO eat something, low blood sugar might not look good on you!
high blood sugar bride
DO get your man involved in someway this day is not just all about you
s
DO Ask your photographer to help you with the timeline, and recommending vendors.
DO; leave your phones at home a week before the wedding and go on a date together.
DO give your phone to a friend or family member the day it will be constantly ringing
DO feed your vendors, take care of them and they will do a better job for you
DO have a manni & peddi, and have your man get one also, it will be fun!
DO have a Mimosa while you are being pampered
DO have everyone come to you the day of your wedding, dont go out to a salon to have your hair and makeup done, that can be very stressful, try to have everything in one place
bridzilla
DO:Most of all remind yourselves, this day is all about the marriage, not the wedding, relax and enjoy,in 23 yrs I have never had anything big go wrong, dont sweet the small stuff!!
